Hi Min Quan, gathering new ideas is just one part of the overall process of innovation. Ideas are just a start, the process of transforming the ideas into tangible products, services or efficient processes are the most challenging. Thereafter there is the next stage of testing the products, services and processes, getting consumers' feedback and making finer improvements to better suit the consumers is the next important stage in innovation. In other words, innovation is handwork, from ideas to products.
Hi Roy, innovation can lead to change in services or processes, not just products. For example, the change in the way Macdonalds counter staff serve their customers and getting their food ready is an innovation in the process. It used to be the same person to take order and prepare the food and drinks. Now the counter staff just take order, collect the money and only occasionally help to prepare the food and drinks. You got the key word though, for innovation, it has to be new or rather, different.
Hi Chen Ning, it would only appeal if it could meet the consumers' needs. Innovative products or services or processes should not be complex. It has to be simple, like you said, user-friendly. Otherwise it will turn off people. Well said!
Hi Sophia, the idea alone will not benefit anything or anyone. Some people even say that ideas are cheap. In innovation, we need to take action on the ideas, the process of transforming the ideas into a product that would lead to a positive change in people's lives. I really like your mention of bettering society, because that's always this process towards excellence in innovation. Great!
Hi Noel, you are right in that innovation must lead to things being better and hopefully profitability if it is something that meet the consumers' needs. For profitability, the tagline for productivity Cheaper, Better, Faster also apply. These tagline for productivity was first mentioned in Singapore by our Minister Mr Lim Swee Say a few years back. Do you know what it means?
Hi Shanice, the look is important and that has to do with design, but more importantly, innovation should lead to improvement in functionality, for example, the handphone has not changed much in design but the innovation in functions and capability were what kept people upgrading and buying. The appearance can be enhanced through phone covers but the core shape has been more or less the same for smart phones. Look is only one of the outcomes in innovation.
Innovation is creating change, like making thing better and improving ideas. Innovation is also embracing change, as that is the only way we can create change.
Innovation is about gathering new ideas and creating new things for the people.

ReplyDeleteInnovation is making something better out of something which is bad combined with (sometimes) something which is good/bad
ReplyDeleteMust it be out of combining good and bad?
